Since Marty Campbell has officially won the Assessor Treasurer seat, his seat, County Council District #5, is open for an appointment. Any registered voter that professes to be a Democrat can apply to the Pierce County Democrat Party for that opportunity. Here is the process:
The Democrat Party of Pierce County will choose 3 people as candidates for the appointment. The County Council can choose one of those three to be the next Councilmember for the seat.
To apply to the Pierce County Democrats for the seat, look at the Public GIS political boundaries and be sure you are a registered voter and a democrat in those boundaries. Contact them at pcdemsinfo@gmail.com.
“When a vacancy occurs on the Pierce County Council, as defined in Section 4.70(1) of the Pierce County Charter, and the County Central Committee of the appropriate party as designated in Section 4.70(2) of the Pierce County Charter has submitted a list of three names to the Council, the Council shall interview each of the three people on the list in a Regular or Special Meeting open to the public. Discussion of the qualifications of the three candidates may be held by the Council in Executive Session. Following the Executive Session, the Chair of the Council shall reconvene the Special Meeting and a Resolution shall be introduced for adoption by a majority of the Council appointing the new Councilmember.”
The successful candidate will have to run for election in the 2025 General Election to retain the seat in 2026, and again in 2026 to begin a new four-year term on Jan. 1, 2026.
