Pierce Transit partnered with the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management to provide free rides to warming centers through Jan. 22.
The free rides are in effect starting Jan. 19, according to Pierce Transit. There will be a free bus, Runner and SHUTTLE paratransit (for registered SHUTTLE customers) rides to local centers and shelters.
“The free round trips are available throughout the day and evening for passengers who tell the driver they are traveling to or from a warming center or shelter,” said Rebecca Japhet, Communications Manager for Pierce Transit.
The Parkland School is one such Warming Center. Steve Decker of FPPC showed the warming Center to the Board of the Parkland Community Center tonight during their meeting.


If you’re experiencing homelessness or need a place to warm up, a temporary overnight warming center is opening at 8 p.m. in Parkland the 21st and 22nd.
Family Promise Center – located inside the Parkland Community Center at 214 121st Street East, Tacoma, 98444, across from the Parkland Transit Center.
There are spaces for 70 individuals plus pets. There is separate space for families. The site will close at 8 a.m.
There are also snacks.
Please come in from the cold, your community has been working hard on Family Promise and the Parkland Community Center to make this happen.
