Saturday, January 25th, the Parkland School building was open to the public for a fundraising event to raise more money toward the mortgage payments for the building. An additional $1 million will be due to PLU in May.
Around 130 people came out to listen to the Tacoma Pierce County Jazz Band, bid on a wide variety of auction items, tour the building, chit chat, and snack on refreshments.
Family Promise of Pierce County also let people tour through their offices, even though they are currently serving as a nighttime warming venter for Pierce County while the weather is freezing outside.

Many of the people who visited could tell you exactly when they went to school there. They pointed out the NE corner in the basement as the former location of the library and which classrooms they were assigned to.
Council Member Jani Hitchen brought our newest County Council member, Bryan Yambe to meet the southern part of his district #5. Council member Yambe is a Fife resident and has been deputy mayor there. It was a great opportunity for him to get to know Parkland better.
Members of the Scearce family were present. Mr. Scearce was a popular teacher at the school, when it was an elementary for the Franklin Pierce District.
Overall, it was a well-attended and pleasant event to participate in. Most were not really ready to leave as it ended at 3 p.m. I am sure you all will be welcome back to help anytime.
Of course, to hit a million-dollar payment, they still need your help. Here’s where you can donate.
