Do you like how Pierce County does business? Or are you frustrated with some of the processes, procedures, and methods used?
How Pierce County does business is laid out in the County Charter. From time to time, there are ways these processes can be improved, but the Council will not vote for the change. That is where the Charter Review Committe’s role is important, to make the changes the Council, Executive, or other elected officials will not make.
Do you want an appointed Sheriff? It would require a Charter change.
Want Council positions to be non-partisan? That is also a Charter change.
What this group does is critical to the function of local government. The politicized decisions, controversies and conclusions of Charter Review members can be boring or lively. This is not just any committee. Without proper scrutiny, it could make the following ten years challenging for select groups in our county.
Think about what you might want changed. Run, or encourage a talented friend to run. Choose some smart, savvy people connected to how things work or could be better. Filling will be in May 2025.
The County Council will approve the election January 28, 2025. Quote from Resolution No. R2025-101:
“Whereas, pursuant to the requirements of Section 8.20 of the Charter and in
furtherance of the public interest of the people of Pierce County, the Council hereby
initiates the election of a Charter Review Commission, to be elected at the 2025 Primary
and General Elections, fulfilling the requirements of the Charter; Now Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of Pierce County:

Review Commission at the 2025 Primary and General Elections in Pierce County in
