A Community Advisory Team of subject-matter experts has been convened to help implement a community outreach and engagement plan for a community forest project in the Upper Puyallup River Watershed.
This project is aimed at creating a community forest that is managed and owned on behalf of local communities in the Upper Puyallup Watershed, to provide them with secure and reliable access to a thriving forest ecosystem with publicly accessible spaces for recreation, learning, and cultural practices, while also protecting water quality and wildlife habitat.
We envision that the forest would be managed and operated by the currently-forming Puyallup Watershed Conservation Land Trust. The current potential areas of interest for the future community forest include lands on the southeast side of Lake Kapowsin (Puyallup watershed portion) and areas around tributaries in the Upper Puyallup and also along the Carbon River Corridor. However, there are no specific land tracts/areas identified at this time, and the previously identified sources of funding for land acquisition are uncertain at this point in the planning process.
On behalf of the Community Advisory Team we are seeking community feedback through this survey: https://forms.gle/sCBMEkg4vWD22H8a6
The survey will be open until April 22, 2025. Thank you for contributing to this important project!
