Races with more than two candidates will appear on the August Primary Election ballot, while all other offices will advance directly to the General Election in November, in accordance with RCW 29A.52.220.The Pierce County Council District 5 seat will appear on both the Primary and General Election ballots as a partisan race. This election will fill a one-year unexpired term.For a complete list of open offices, please visit PierceCountyWA.gov/elections. “The national conversation may be taking all the oxygen out of the room, but all the action happens at the local level,” said Pierce County Auditor Linda Farmer, who previously served as a Lakewood City Council Member and as a Pierce County Charter Review Commissioner. “If you want to make a difference close to home, filing for local office is the way to go.”

Filing for OfficeThe candidate filing process is completely virtual. Online filing opens Monday, May 5, at 8:00 a.m. To file your declaration of candidacy, go to PierceCountyWA.gov/elections. Candidates needing help should call 253-798-VOTE. Candidates who come to the office will file using the online system at a kiosk.Filing week runs through Friday, May 9, and closes at 5:00 p.m. both online and at the Pierce County Elections Center, located at 2501 S. 35th Street, Suite C, in Tacoma.For a list of open offices, voters’ pamphlet requirements, and more visit PierceCountyWA.gov/elections.A lot drawing to determine the candidate order on the ballot will take place after the close of filing on Friday, May 9 (approximately 5:15 p.m.), at the Pierce County Elections Center.
