Questions about WA Cares Fund?

Pierce County’s Aging and Disability Resources (ADR) is announcing a new initiative to educate residents, community organizations, and employers about the WA Cares Fund, Washington’s first-of-its-kind public long-term care insurance program. ADR is offering expert-led informational presentations, available in-person or online, to clarify benefits, eligibility, and the future of long-term care for Pierce County residents.

The WA Cares Fund was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2019 to address ‌a critical gap in financial planning for aging and disability needs. Currently, 7 in 10 Washingtonians will require long-term care in their lifetimes – which can exceed $100,000 ‌a year.

Presentations are offered at no charge and are designed to provide the following information to individuals, employers, or other community groups:

• how the vested, lifetime benefit of up to $36,500 can be used for professional care, home modifications, and more, and

• what the role is for employers and how this benefit supports a stable and financially secure workforce.

Beginning in July 2026, vested workers who are eligible will be able to access WA Cares Fund benefits. At that time, as the designated local service provider for the WA Cares Fund in Pierce County, ADR will play a central role in connecting eligible beneficiaries with approved services and support. The WA Cares Fund benefit is accessible to residents who later move out of state. Out-of-state benefits will become accessible in July 2030.

To schedule a presentation or to become a service provider in the WA Cares Fund network, email WACares@piercecountywa.gov, or call the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 253-798-4600.

The ADRC provides a single point of entry for services and supports for older adults, people with disabilities, and their caregivers. As part of Pierce County Human Services, the ADRC is committed to promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life for all residents. Learn more at PierceADRC.org.
