Parkland Community Trail underway

There was a groundbreaking at Sprinker on September 27, 2025, but the trail itself is about to begin construction through Parkland. It will connect Spanaway Park, Sprinker Recreation Center, and the Parkland Prairie, with Pacific Lutheran University, Washington High School and Keithly Middle School. It will be a couple blocks away from Gonyea Field as well.

Here are some of the comments from the county website about it:

What to Expect
The first phase of construction, from Sprinker Recreation Center to Tule Lake Road, will begin in Fall 2025 and is anticipated to be substantially complete by late 2026. The project will include:

  • Trail construction within the road right-of-way and Parkland Prairie.
  • Installation of a bridge in Parkland Prairie.
  • Street crossings, directional signage, and landscaping.
  • Tule Lake Road crossing improvements.

Negotiations are ongoing to finalize plans for a trail connection across PLU’s property, which will link to Washington High School and Keithley Middle School.

The trail will be a 12-foot-wide asphalt surface largely within the existing road right-of-way, with pedestrian crossing signals at Tule Lake Rd. and 138th St. S.

During construction, the Parkland Prairie will be closed to the public while we resurface the gravel trails. The Parkland Prairie will reopen when the Parkland Community Trail project is completed.
