Local Author’s ‘DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal’ Slated to be Released by Futureword Publishing on June 28

SPANAWAY, WA — Spanaway native and Tacoma copywriter Kristine M. Smith has been making the rounds locally and virtually lately, speaking at Rotary South Tacoma, JR’s Whistle Stop and local schools. She will be speaking on June 25th at Ricky J’s on 176thsometime between 8 and 9 a.m.

Smith’s presentations resonate on several fronts: She talks to school students about what it takes to succeed as a writer; explains what it was like to own (and be owned by) a serval cat for seventeen years (a cautionary tale designed to discourage wild pet ownership); and recalls what it was like to have her writing career launched and enthusiastically encouraged by her favorite actor—one of the most iconic science fiction actors to grace motion pictures and television screens: actor DeForest Kelley, who portrayed Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in the original STAR TREK series.

On June 11thStarTrek.com ran an exclusive interview with her. Also in June Encore Life Magazine—an attractive, insightful online free publication for Baby Boomers who want to age in place in their own homes—published a piece Smith wrote about what it was like to be Kelley’s personal assistant and caregiver at the end of his life.

Her new book, DeFOREST KELLEY UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL—an enhanced version of her 2001 title ‘DeForest Kelley A Harvest of Memories’—is scheduled to be released on June 28th. She encourages all local Pierce County STAR TREK/Kelley fans and their extended networks to befriend her on Facebook to join her book launch campaign and pledge to buy the new edition on the day it debuts to help push it up the flagpole at Amazon.
