Summer begins on the prairie

There used to be a school house near here. It was called Oak Knoll School. There are even a few around who remember it still. It was nestled on the prairie not far from the hill, just below where the gas pipeline crosses 8th Avenue South. JBLM refers to it as Training Area 15. Historians know it was Sandy Smith’s home and Peter Wilson’s Donation Land Claim. Later, the Rice family raised crops and kids on it.

Lovely in every season, it is the masthead of the Pierce Prairie Post. Here is a little of summer on the prairie…
