SPANAWAY, WA — Each year on the third Sunday in July, the Spanaway Historical Society holds its annual picnic at the Prairie House Museum on 176th Street. Although the driveway was a bit difficult to find this year due to road construction, the event went off well on the cool, cloudy rainless day.
Jean Sensel presented the newest book on Spanaway history. She worked on Spanaway (Images of America) for Arcadia Publishing. The other book called Early Spanaway was also available for sale from the Historical Society.
For entertainment, the Tacoma Banjo Club worked their magic with old-time tunes as visitors chatted, reminisced and devoured the potluck treats. On hand were Sue and Chuck Overra of Fir Lane Memorial Park, Senator Steve Conway, who unknown to many is actually Dr. Steve Conway. He has a PhD in history.
Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of Early Spanaway can purchase one at the Fir Lane office on weekdays. The New book Spanaway, can be purchased on-line at Amazon.com or through the Celebrate Spanaway website.
