Special Forces Scholarship Fund to hold awards ceremony

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.—The Special Forces Scholarship Fund will hold an awards ceremony August 8, 2 p.m. at the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) compound.

Retired Army Col. Richard G. Thomas Jr., the 1st SFG (A) Scholarship Fund Volunteer Program Director, will be hosting the event along with Col. Steve Johnson, 1st SFG (A) Deputy Commanding Officer.

Thomas previously commanded 1st SFG (A) from 2004 to 2006.

The Special Forces Scholarship Fund is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to providing merit based postsecondary educational scholarships to the daughters and sons of current and veteran Special Forces and Special Forces Support Soldiers.

In its 3rd year in the SFSF program, the 1st SFG (A) Advisory Board has made tremendous progress: it has matched the amount of donations solicited in

2013, and with those donations will be granting 12 awards to very deserving

1st SFG (A) Students.
