Elected officials tour JBLM Joint Base connector road and overpass construction site August 19

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – U.S. Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash., and U.S. Representatives Adam Smith, D-Bellevue, and Denny Heck, D-Olympia, will receive a construction update and tour the site of the new Joint Base connector road and overpass project at JBLM. The new road and overpass will cross over Perimeter Road, which bisects Lewis Main and McChord Field, to link these segments of the joint base.

The officials’ visit is August 19 at 11 a.m. Senior JBLM leaders, the Directorate of Public Works, and the Seattle District Corps of Engineers will be on-hand to discuss the project’s progress.

Construction began in May and completion is set for Spring 2015.CrossBase

Service members who work on either McChord Field or Lewis Main will more easily travel back-and-forth without needing to exit or enter security gates. Additionally, people will be able to transit the base more quickly without going onto Interstate 5, thereby easing some highway traffic.
