Mrs. Edith Lucile Christensen Niehl (11/7/1924-10/15/2014) was born Woonsocket, South Dakota and grew up on the family farm in Forestburg with her ten brothers and sisters. She moved to Seattle in her early 20’s and met her husband Ed Niehl on a blind date in the summer of 1948. They were married on April 7, 1949. In August of 1964 they moved into their home near Bethel High School where they would live for the next 46 years. Together with Ed, she was involved in the Bethel Booster Club and Bethel Recreation. Mrs. Niehl was a secretary at Bethel High School for 15 years and she retired in 1981. She enjoyed sports and knitting. Her knitting became her never-ending gift – starting with slippers, sweaters, and finally creating over 60 afghans for her family members and friends.
Mrs. Niehl passed away peacefully and was surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ed Niehl; her sons Bob and wife Trish, Dave and wife Misty; her grandchildren Michael, Shelby, David, Bekah, Daniel and Katelynn; her brother Bob Christensen; her sister Chris Norman; extended family; and many longtime friends of the Bethel community. The family wishes to thank Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care for their guidance over the past five months. Their caring support was much appreciated.

A memorial service will be held at the Bethel High School Auditorium on November 1, 2014 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Edith Niehl’s name:
