OY, WA — The 555th Engineer Brigade recently conducted its 15th annual tree cutting for the City of Roy. A tradition that began in 1999 to build the partnership between the community and soldiers. Mayor Karen Yates came out to swing the ceremonial axe along with COL Holman and CSM Hood before felling the tree. The City of Roy will be lighting the tree this Friday at 1900 in the city hall.
This year’s tree will not be outdoors as before, but inside the City Hall building. According to mayor Yates, “The tree is placed where it can be seen through the entrance and we are decorating the front of the building a bit more than previously.”
Friday, December 5, starting at 6 p.m., there will be treats and a visit by Santa at the Roy Library. Following at 7 p.m. will be the tree lighting and carols at City Hall.
