The Scandinavian Cultural Center (SCC) brought the Christmas time Sankta Lucia tradition to PLU Friday night. This Swedish tradition is celebrated near the winter solstice and is a festival of light.
At PLU, the one wearing the crown of lights is a scholarship winner chosen by the SCC. The procession members each carry a light, enter the room and the group sings carols in the dark. A group of four fiddlers join them. Then they celebrate (with the lights on) by dancing around the Christmas tree and enjoying punch, cookies and saffron rolls. Santa also made a brief appearance.
