20 years ago in January, the Spanaway Community Association became an official non-profit corporation in the State of Washington. For many years, they operated under the moniker, Spanaway Community Action Network (SCAN) and took on a myriad of projects across the community from holiday tree lightings to campfires and informational meetings. They even got involved in building a certain skate park at Sprinker.
Busy people get tired of meetings and hard working citizen activists also have lots of obligations. It grew more and more difficult to find people to gather for the evening meetings.
In a brainstorm in 2012, Marianne Lincoln, the current President suggested starting an on-line news source. The blog, known as the Pierce Prairie Post. Joining together with other local community associations, non-profit groups and the local schools, the Post gathers and disseminates information of events and activities in the South end of Pierce County.
Now people can see an important event or happening in the Post at their convenience and have one less meeting to attend in their busy schedule.
Happy Birthday Spanaway Community Association! Here’s wishing you many more!
And you do a very good job.
