Spanaway’s forgotten ties to Fort Steilacoom – April 12

Historic Fort Steilacoom Presentation

This Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m.

Jean Sensel, author of Images of America~Spanaway, tells true tales of Spanaway’s forgotten ties to Fort Steilacoom and the Northwest’s 1855 Indian War. Coffee and conversation to follow.

Spanaway resident John Wilson Roberts leased his prairie land for militia training. Learn more about John and the Fort Steilacoom soldiers who became Spanaway’s first settlers but rejoined to serve in the battles of the 1855 Indian War.

Stories of the wars, politics and intrigue that created Spanaway’s rich history, told through photographs in Images of America~Spanaway.

Spanaway and its first settler, John Montgomery, played key (but conveniently forgotten) roles in the 1855 War.

The presentation is at The Historic Fort Steiacoom, 9601 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98498, on the grounds of Western State Hospital.
