Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. – The 2015 Special Olympics Washington Summer Games will host a record-breaking 2,800 Special Olympics athletes at Joint Base Lewis-McChord May 29-31.
The Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” is scheduled to arrive at JBLM McChord Field Friday, May 29, in time for the opening ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (immediately following the parade of athletes).
Each year, thousands of athletes and volunteers come to the installation to participate in two days of athletic competition in events such as track & field, cycling, power-lifting and soccer. These events showcase strength, skill, courage and the belief that everyone competes.
JBLM provides venues for the Summer Games, as well as logistical support (transportation, utilities, communication, meals, and lodging). Many members of the military community also volunteer at the summer games.
Athletic competitions will be held at JBLM Lewis Main and JBLM Lewis North on Saturday and Sunday.
