Evergreen Elementary named National Title I Distinguished School

Evergreen Elementary was named a National Title I Distinguished School. This prestigious recognition is given to a small number of schools across the country that excel academically despite having a large percentage of low-income students. Only one other school in Washington was named a Distinguished School this year. 

 

8th Grader Kael Johnson is battling hunger in Bethel

Kael came up with the idea for what he calls “Care Closets.” Each school will be given a mobile pantry that contains food and basic toiletries for kids in need. What makes the Care Closet concept unique is the mobility component. Kael knows that kids can be cruel and there is sometimes a stigma associated with needing food or deodorant. “The mobile part of it is for the confidentiality of the kids. I know it’s kind of weird to have to be seen there,” he said.

 

GKHS coach named Seahawks High School Coach of the Week

The Graham-Kapowsin High School football team has started the season hot, winning its first five games by a combined score of 230-65. That success hasn’t gone unnoticed, and even the mighty Seattle Seahawks are giving the Eagles kudos.
