Pierce County will perform maintenance work on a bridge over Muck Creek located on 8th Avenue South almost a half-mile south of Rice Kandle Road East starting Sept. 3.
The bridge will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for up to two weeks.
Motorists should add extra travel time and expect delays.
Crews will add a concrete barrier in front of the bridge footings to help prevent gravel around the footings from being washed away by the creek. The footings serve as the foundation of the bridge.
Crews will also reestablish the creek stream bed by moving sediment that had settled downstream back under the bridge.
The two-lane bridge is a concrete slab structure and is approximately 32 feet long. It was built in 1947 and carries approximately 4,000 vehicles a day.
