In South Pierce County, there is a hidden gem that meets at noon the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the Paradise Lanes Entertainment Center, 12505 Pacific Ave S, Tacoma, WA 98444. The club, part of Kiwanis International, raises money and provides more than $12,000 of college scholarships annually in the Franklin Pierce and Bethel school districts.
But wait, there’s more! Adults seeking further education in a vocation to get a job would do well to ask if their local Kiwanis could help. A single mother, needing training in beauty school to support her kids is not beyond their consideration.
If you are in high school, contact your guidance counselor and tell them you want to apply for a Kiwanis Scholarship. The application cut off is March 2023. Awards are given in June.
If you have a heart for community, stop by a meeting as a guest and see what they are all about. The Parkland-Spanaway area needs people working together for the greater good.
The next meetings are September 22, October 13 and October 27. Grab a lunch from the restaurant and be part of something good happening!
If you want to know more, you may contact Bruce Rice, current President of the Parkland-Spanaway Kiwanis at bar65459@comcast.net.
KIWANIS MISSION
We develop resources that transform the goodwill and vision of Kiwanians into programs that serve the children of the world. We focus on issues Kiwanians care about, particularly in the areas of education and literacy, health and nutrition, and youth leadership development — as well as our efforts to fight maternal and neonatal tetanus and iodine deficiency disorders.

We hope to see you soon!
