Incorporation study, Frederickson to Parkland Jan. 23

It is not a filed incorporation request, it is a feasibility study paid for through state funds. State Representative Melanie Morgan put it in the budget in 2020. The Governor did a line item veto in it that year, but his pen missed it the next year. So the Washington State Department of Commerce is working on the numbers and coming out to the Land Use Advisory groups in those areas to talk about it.

Frederickson Land Use Advisory Commission Meeting – January 23, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the Pierce County Skills Center, 16117 Canyon Road East, Puyallup, WA.

Anyone within the area of interest is welcome to attend, even if you are not living in Frederickson. It is a public meeting. You can be added to the information list the department is maintaining for interested parties.

You can find out more on their website about the “Parkland Incorporation Study.”

If a community actually desires incorporation, the procedures are in the Revised Code of Washington and include a $100 filling with the Pierce County Council, a public meeting, collection of signatures on a petition containing a legal description of the boundaries, and then a public vote. Nothing of that kind has taken place for these boundaries.

Wondering, is this anything related to making spanaway/ parkland
/ fredrickson/ Graham a city similar to Lakewood, then increasing taxes and other revenue to those living in the boundaries?

What is most likely to happen is the County will lose so much revenue if Frederickson goes into a city, that the surrounding areas will have their taxes raised significantly.

Will this meeting include Spanaway or will that be another meeting?

    1. Lincoln says:

It is everyone all at once in each meeting. The consultants have now attended all 3 land use committees affected. This was the last of 3, until there are other meetings arranged on more specific topics.
