The Parkland community learned in May 2022, that PLU was planning to sell it to developers who had applied to demolish the Eastside Campus, aka Historic Parkland School. A group of citizens reformed the Parkland Community Association (PCA) and have worked to raise awareness and raise money to purchase the building from PLU instead of the developers. After some surveys, PCA determined the community wanted it to be a community services center.
Parkland Community Assoc. is a non-profit, 501(C)(3) corporation. Donations are tax deductible. They had the building professionally inspected and negotiated a purchase and sale agreement with the Office of President Allan Belton. The deadline for the $1,000,000 down payment to close the sale is April 30,2024. The group currently has about $236,000 to go.
If you are able, please make a donation. Any size donation benefits the project as numbers of people are as important in grant writing as is a substantial dollar amount. If you can help close the gap, please do so right away. Once they close escrow, they qualify for additional grant funding.
