TPCHD — The Tacoma Pierce County Health Department has now issued a toxic algae caution advisory for Spanaway Lake as of August 13, 2026. You should avoid areas of the lake where you see algae because they can pose health concerns. You’ll see signs posted at the lake to let you know about the advisory.

When you see algae, don’t swim, wade, waterski, or fish. Keep in mind as wind direction changes, the algae could move elsewhere in the lake. When in doubt, stay out!

The lake was sampled on Aug. 10, 2026, results were received Aug. 12. The lake will be inspected again next week. If the bloom is gone, they will leave the advisory in place for two weeks as a cautionary procedure.
