What helps you live a full, supported, and independent life as you age or manage a disability in Pierce County? More than 800 local older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers shared their daily experiences through our survey and community conversations. Their input helped Pierce County Human Services create an updated roadmap—and now we need your feedback to refine it.
The Aging and Disability Resources division invites all Pierce County residents to attend a public meeting to review and comment on the draft 2027–2030 Area Plan. This four-year plan guides how local funding and programs are prioritized. It directly impacts essential community services, including:
- In-home care and family caregiver support
- Senior meal programs and community nutrition sites
- Specialized transportation and home safety improvements
- Legal help, fall prevention classes, and Alzheimer’s support
What We Heard
Residents shared their experiences during Aging Well Summits, outreach events, and countywide surveys. Here are some of the top needs and everyday challenges you identified:
- 1 in 3 respondents reported being an informal caregiver. Informal caregivers sustain the entire long-term care system by providing essential daily assistance, easing severe strains on healthcare facilities.
- 14% of respondents reported always or often feeling lonely. Being alone may leave older adults more vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation, which can affect their health and wellbeing.
- Older adults and adults with disabilities identified food as their top need. People living on fixed incomes or disability benefits often choose between paying rent, buying medication, or buying food.

I am 85 and in good heath. I manage my needs but, there are occasions where medical proceedures require a need for a ride to South Hill or JBLM Madigan. I have no one with access to JBLM to drive me. I would like a number to call for a ride.
