Jason Foreman, a 16-year-old from Spanaway, is fighting osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer that only 400 to 500 kids and teens are diagnosed with each year. Jason should be thinking about school, friends and getting his driver’s license.

Instead, what started as leg pain, turned out to be a large tumor in his tibia and doctors later found the cancer had spread to both of his lungs. He’s now spending much of his time at the Multicare Mary Bridge Children’s hospital for chemotherapy. Through all of it, he has kept a remarkable faith and positivity that has carried his whole family.

Fortunately, Dr. Monte Squiers at Mary Bridge, was able to save Jason’s leg in a 12-hour limb salvage surgery which replaced parts of two leg bones and his entire knee with titanium prosthetics. 

Jason is currently attending Challenger High School but has only been able to attend 4 partial days so far this school year due to his illness. He will not be able attend Monday either because he is currently in the hospital due to extremely low blood counts. He has had 22 chemo treatments since his diagnosis in January 2026. He only has two more chemotherapy sessions to go until he the doctors perform the scans to see if his lung tumors have shrunk.

The amazing thing about Jason is that he’s still always smiling. He doesn’t complain. He stays cheerful and he does his best to keep the people around him from worrying. Even though we, his family, are terrified, he isn’t scared. His dad, Michael Foreman, put it this way just yesterday: “It would be dangerous for him to be at home, especially since he doesn’t complain enough. There might be too much delay if he got sick.”

The family’s 2013 Ford Escape has developed a loud clunking noise at idle, and it also needs new tires before winter. If a local garage would be willing to diagnose the noise and help with the repairs or tires, it would take one more worry off their plate while Jason is in treatment.

[Editor: As a survivor of Stage III Ovarian Cancer, I am very aware of the cost and stresses that cancer presents, both to the patient and their extended family and friends. At the same time as my diagnosis, we lost my neice, a mother of two small children to metastasized colon cancer.
