Apply for a landmarks preservation grant by April 15

PIERCE COUNTY — The Pierce County Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 Preservation Grant Program, which assists in funding preservation efforts.

Grant requests can be made for historic preservation or history-related project proposals.

The maximum request is $10,000 for stabilization, restoration or rehabilitation of Certified Local Government register-listed buildings or structures. For photographic/document preservation, historic markers, history research, and public events/programming, the maximum request is $5,000.

Nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and owners of property listed on local historic registers are eligible to apply. Matching resources must be provided by the applicants.

Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on April 15, 2013. Project activities must be completed by Oct. 1, 2014.

The program is funded by HDOC money, derived from the $1 recording fee, as appropriated by the Pierce County Council.
