Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant Leroy A. Petry Retirement ceremony July 23, 2 p.m.

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment will conduct an official retirement ceremony in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant Leroy A. Petry Wednesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. here.

Media who wish to attend the retirement ceremony should call 706-604-5114 for pick-up time and location.

Petry will conduct interviews Tuesday, July 22, 2014 here.

Interviews with media outside of the Tacoma/Seattle area will be conducted as a teleconference at 1 p.m. Dial-in information will be provided when you R.S.V.P. to 75rgrpao@soc.mil.

Interviews with Seattle/Tacoma media will be conducted at the 2d Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment headquarters building at 2:30 p.m.  For more information, pick up time and location; call 706-604-5114.

Petry will be unavailable to conduct interviews the day of the ceremony.

Petry was awarded the Nation’s highest honor July 12, 2011 for his actions against an armed enemy in the vicinity of Paktya Province, Afghanistan May 26, 2008 when he was assigned to D Company, 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

Petry is retiring after 15 years of honorable service to our Nation.

He joined the U.S. Army September 1999 from his hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. After completing One Station Unit Training, the Basic Airborne Course and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program all at Fort Benning, Ga., Petry was assigned to 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He served as a grenadier, squad automatic rifleman, fire team leader, squad leader, operations sergeant, and a weapons squad leader. He has deployed eight times in support of the War on Terror with two tours to Iraq and six tours to Afghanistan.
