We had another good meeting with 31 members present.
noWYR and Robert Bain was our meeting sponsor. Since Robert was not available to attend, President Regis Jackson talked about Robert’s business and how he had helped him when no one else could with his wifi. Other members shouted out for Robert. It was almost as effective as if Robert were there.
Eric Welch branch manager of Columbia Bank on 176th & Meridian was presented with the GBA “Volunteer of the Quarter” for his outstanding efforts for the GBA Golf Tournament held on August 16th.
Speaking of the Golf Tournament, it was a beautiful day (Saturday, August 16th) at Lipoma Firs Golf Course. We had nine teams in a semi-shotgun start. Our special guest was Charlie’s Dinosaur. Chuck Cox, grandfather of the Powell boys (Charlie & Braden) and father of Susan Powell, dressed in the dinosaur costume and strolled around the golf course (we couldn’t squeeze his dinosaur tail into the golf cart). Sheriff Pastor and two of the detectives that work on Charlie’s Dinosaur (Teresa Berg and Gary Sanders) were there for the start. Sorry, I don’t know who the winners were but Sign Dog Media entertained the crew and placed in the top 3 of the tournament. Jimmy Morgan won the Putting Contest. We had 16 hanging flower baskets as part of the raffle – a tradition with our tournament. One half of the proceeds from the Tournament will go to Charlie’s Dinosaur project to help children with trauma in their lives.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored a hole and donated to the raffle! You are appreciated!
Back to the meeting last week, Ed Kyllonen and Kelly Woyak from Graham Kapowsin High School talked about “Dream Builders” a mentorship program for students. It’s a lot like speed dating – where the business person sits at a table and 5 or 6 students come to talk and ask questions about his/her profession. It has been very effective in exposing the students to many professions. They are looking for business people who would be willing to sit in on one of these sessions. There will be a session this Fall at GK High School.
The GBA Scholarship Auction is coming up on November 19th at Silver Creek Retirement facility. We need a committee to work on this project. You can volunteer by responding to this email.
I will be on vacation next week and back in the office on the 2nd but you can leave a message!
