Domestic Violence Awareness Day set for April 26 in Pierce County, Tacoma

The Pierce County Council and the Tacoma City Council have issued proclamations designating April 26th as Domestic Violence Awareness Day in Pierce County and the City of Tacoma. April 26, 2015, marks the twelfth anniversary of the tragic murder of Crystal Judson Brame by her estranged husband, former Tacoma Police Chief David Brame.

“Domestic violence is a community problem that can only be solved with a community solution,” said Pierce County Councilmember Rick Talbert, who also chairs the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center’s executive board. “I urge everyone to take time on Sunday to reflect on the impact domestic violence has on our community, including the many innocent lives that have been lost. I believe each and every one of us has an opportunity and an obligation to make a personal commitment to doing our part to end domestic violence.”

The Crystal Judson Family Justice Center is a comprehensive service center for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services at the center range from safety-planning and education to civil legal services, spiritual support, counseling, financial assistance, and more.

For more information about making a difference in the work to end domestic violence, visit the center’s website at www.aplaceofhelp.org. The center gratefully accepts donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries.  Monetary donations to support the center’s Victim Services Fund can be made through the Family Justice Center Foundation Fund, a component fund of the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.
