[Editor Note: Updated with new date. The County Council has delayed this one week due to lack of sufficient notice to candidates.]
Ten years ago, I started my first blog called Lincoln Literature. In the blog, I followed the process of redistricting Pierce County (2011) very closely. I included quotes of the members, something minutes never do. In fact, it was enough information that John Ladenburg was satisfied that he had enough information to go court if needed. He did not need to take that step in 2011.
Well, the time has arrived to do it again.
On Tuesday, August 31, Sept. 7, 2021, at the 3 p.m. County Council meeting, the Council will select 2 Republicans and 2 Democrats from lists of 5 that were provided by each party. The 5th member will be jointly selected by the committee as a more neutral party. Ten years ago, that was a female retired judge, especially warranted as all the other members were male. A bonus that she was familiar with making good legal calls.
Once the selections are made, the date and times of the meetings will be decided by the committee. I will endeavor to get that information noted, as well as the process as it gets underway.
Here is the Council meeting information for the selection of the first four members:

Meetings are held in hybrid format with in-person and remote attendance. To attend and/or comment remotely call 253-215-8782 and use Web ID 976-6178-7423, or use Zoom link https://piercecountywa.zoom.us/j/97661787423. Find meeting schedules, agendas and legislation at piercecountywa .gov /council.
We shall see if they do any better at keeping communities like Parkland and Spanaway whole, or if they split Elk Plain with far away Lakewood again.
