Vulnerable Man Resists Low-Ball Sale of His Home to $62 million Pierce Homeless Project.

SPANAWAY — Spanaway resident Rick Mosier, who admits to having disabilities and has only social security disability income, is trying to stop the sale of his lifelong home to make way for the $62 million Community First Village homeless project.  Mosier needs the proceeds of the sale to live on.  The executor of his mother’s estate, of which he is the sole beneficiary, agreed recently to sell the property for $300,000.  She was told the property was worth less than $300,000, when in fact its intrinsic value to the purchaser/developer was considerably more (acquisition would save the developer approximately $1 million in sewer and road costs).  Pierce County shows the assessed value of the property at $570,000.  Mosier has retained an attorney to try to block the agreed upon sale and negotiate for a higher price.

The Tacoma Rescue Mission is pushing forward to vest the Village project before Pierce County Council ordinance 2023-14 resets the zoning this Friday, effectively halting the project application.   The Council has allocated $12 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the Mission, with an additional $15 million pending project development.   Thus far the proponents have been unwilling to renegotiate the price for Mosier’s property.   Mosier says, “Since my mom died, it seems everyone has been out to get whatever they can out of me.”

Tacoma Rescue Mission got a question? Hotels, Airbnbs, Rentals apartment complex in Ruston that is bankrupt why not allocate money to pay for families students older folks just anyone needing a place to sleep while you all develop this property? Timber you cut was worth millions are you building furniture or sheds cabins because your non profit is not giving your extra rooms or letting anyone stay where you live? I just want to see our citizens that are cold and hungry not have to wait while you decide your plan to provide homes for those in need. You received millions to give one man 3.7 million to receive millions to cut millions in timber where is that timber?
