June 6 Habitat Stewardship at Flett Creek

on

The habitat stewardship event on CPTC’s Flett Property is this Saturday, June 6th from 9:00 AM to noon! The flyer below has pertinent details and all of the 2026 dates for the remaining habitat stewardship events in 2026.

For this habitat stewardship event, the focus will be on cutting scotch broom using reciprocating saws and loppers.  Training on the proper and safe use of reciprocating saws will be provided.  Other tasks are available for those that do not want to work on scotch broom.  Gloves, tools, and snacks will be provided!  If you have gloves and/or tools of your own that you prefer using, please feel free to bring them.

CPTC’s Outdoor Lab is across Steilacoom Blvd. from campus.  Park on campus (enter campus at Hageness Drive, which is near Lakes Body Shop) and then walk across Steilacoom Blvd. to the Flett Property.  Here is a Google Maps link to the suggested parking lot:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/zqYDX1ogeJZemu5t5.  You can cross the street at the Steilacoom Blvd. and Hageness Drive intersection.  Don’t forget to dress for the weather and bring water to drink!

Your help is appreciated, see you on Saturday!  Please reach out if you have any questions or problems.

Note from Derek Faust, PhD: Last month at a CPTC faculty in-service day, I was awarded the Sustainability Faculty Recognition Award for contributing to the long-term health of the institution, community, and environment. This award was in part due to the work and community building we accomplish at the Flett Habitat Stewardship events. If y’all did not continue to show up for the events, we would not continue to host them. I want to thank all of you for your contributions!
