Garfield Station Groundbreaking held Tuesday

PARKLAND, WA — The groundbreaking for the new Garfield Station complex in Parkland was held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 on a beautiful 75 degree, sunny day.

Demolition of the old buildings was completed the previous week and the celebration to bring in the new began. The owners, Garfield North, LLC and the Development Manager Affinity Real Estate Management, Inc. hired Korsmo Construction, Inc. as the general contractor.

The Architect GGLO designed a 4 story complex with retail and office space on the lower level and apartments on top. The objective was to create a close knit community with convenience and a unique lifestyle near Pacific Lutheran University. The project aims to revitalize the area and compliment the existing Garfield Street businesses.

Speakers for the event included John Korsmo of Korsmo Construction, Kirk Rector of Affinity, County Councilman Doug Richardson, State Representative Dick Muri and former County Councilwoman Barbara Gelman. Gelman was involved in the early 2000’s when this complex was envisioned with former PLU President Loren Anderson.

PLU President Thomas Krise and finance manager Sheri Tonn were present. Tonn made remarks as she has been present at the University through the process.

After the remarks, the ceremonial gold shovels and hard hats were donned for the official “breaking ground,” followed by lemonade, ice water and cookies.

Thanks for the nice coverage of this event and the pictures.

    1. Not so sure Doug Kotrba is going to be as happy… he should be getting a Rotary fine now 🙂
