County Council District 5 “In District” meeting

UPDATED 4-15-26

On Thursday, April 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., a Pierce County Council meeting will be held at the Dacca Barn in Fife. The address is 2820 54th Ave E, Fife, WA 98424. The meeting will also be available on Zoom and PCTV.

Councilmember Bryan Yambe wrote, “District 5 is currently the only unincorporated area with a ready-to-site location for a crisis intervention facility—a place where people in a serious mental health or substance use crisis can get immediate, short-term help—sometimes even if they don’t choose to go. These centers are essential, and we need more of them across the county. At the same time, I’m focused on balance—making sure no one community carries more than its share, and that access to services is equitable countywide.”

What: 2026 District 5 In-District Council Meeting
When:
Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m.
Where: Dacca Barn, 2820 54th Avenue East in Fife
Remote meeting attendance: Participate via Zoom at https://piercecountywa.zoom.us/j/97661787423 or by phone at (253) 215-8782 (Webinar ID: 976-6178-7423).

Presentations will include work the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is doing to address gun violence—a critical public health crisis—which aligns with the department’s work on violence prevention and community safety data across the county, local gang intervention strategies for at-risk youth, and the vital role senior centers serve in providing seniors a community-based path to meet their social and physical needs.

Additionally, Matt Kelley, an Associate Professor with the University of Washington-Tacoma, will share progress on the District 5 Mapping Project, an initiative to map neighborhood assets and safety concerns, directly informing how young and elderly people experience their streets and neighborhoods.

Greentrike, a local nonprofit organization, will also address its play-to-learn approach to early childhood development, centered on the idea that play is essential for healthy development, joy, and community building. Greentrike’s play-to-earn program provides free, accessible, and inclusive, play-based early learning opportunities for children and caregivers, focusing on building social, emotional, and cognitive skills that will prepare children at an important time in their development for the different phases of life as they grow.

“These in-district meetings provide an opportunity for people to learn about and engage with their local county government in a meaningful way without having to travel to downtown Tacoma or take time away from their work to attend a meeting remotely at 3 p.m. We’re excited to be back in the City of Fife.”
