The 2013 Compost Demonstration Grant cycle is now open for Pierce County Community Gardens!
For those of you unfamiliar with this opportunity – it is in partnership with Pierce County Sustainable Resources, and funded by the State Department of Ecology. New and existing community gardens in Pierce County (not in Tacoma city limits) interested in composting are welcome to apply.
The only requirements are that gardens must be located in Pierce County, outside the City of Tacoma, and have a guiding document (bylaws, or charter) in place and in use by the garden. If you do not have this but would like to apply, please contact Kristen McIvor at kristenm@piercecountycd.org or (253) 363-1846 and we can work on this together.
The goal of the grant is to build a network of community gardens that can act as compost demonstration sites. you will be given trainings in composting, provided technical support until you feel comfortable doing it as a garden, and provided up to $2000 (for existing gardens ) or $4000 (for new gardens) to build the compost system and make other garden improvements needed for your success (previously funded improvements include raised beds, fences, hoop houses, etc.)
Deadline for the application (attached) is Oct. 18th. You should be able to fill out the attached form, save it, and return it to us at the Pierce Conservation District. If you encounter technical difficulties, please contact Kristen McIvor at kristenm@piercecountycd.org or (253)363-1846.
