Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter, AUSA upcoming events and sponsorship opportunities


Commanders’ Briefing and General Membership Meeting:   On 15 April 2014, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, the AUSA Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter will be hosting a Commanders’ Briefing and General Membership Meeting.  Come watch our eleven subchapter presidents provide a 2013 year in review to LTG Lanza, the JBLM Brigade Commanders and their Command Sergeant Majors.    During the presentation, we’ll show the audience why we were successful in raising $295,000 last year to support soldiers and their families.  To attend, there is a $20.00 admittance fee for civilians and military retirees.   All active duty Soldiers, Reserves, National Guardsmen, and their spouses can attend at no charge.  Come join us for heavy Hors D’oeuvres and spirits.  The dress is business casual.   Please no jeans.   If you’d like to attend, please RSVP with Virginia Kinakin at     To pay in advance by credit card, simply visit, and click on the “donate” button.  While completing the transaction, please type in “General Membership Meeting” as a description.   Cash, credit card, and check payments can be accepted at the door too.

Operation Recruit Enlistment Dinner (OP RED):  On 6 May 2014, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Saint Martin’s University’s Marcus Pavilion, 5300 Pacific Ave. SE, Lacey, WA., please  come join military recruiters, community leaders, elected officials, and friends as they honor Pierce and Thurston County senior high school students who have made the decision to join the Armed Forces.   You’re invited to attend if you bring a $20.00 gift card.   All gift cards will be used for door prizes for these new recruits.  During the event, CSM Norman, the I CORPS Command Sergeant Major, will be the guest speaker and Major Thomas Cunningham the commander for the Recruiting Station Seattle will perform an unofficial swearing in ceremony.   In addition, mayors from different cities will serve the food.  We’re also looking for sponsors or grant opportunities.  To sponsor the event, please see the flyer here for details.   This is a Washington State Army Advisory Board event, and it’s supported by the AUSA Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter, the AFA McChord Chapter, and the Navy League Tacoma Chapter.  If you’re interested in attending with a gift card or you’re interested in a sponsorship opportunity, simply email Carlene Joseph at   (Anticipated audience total:  800 to 1,000 people)

AUSA, Captain Meriwether Lewis ForeRTroops Golf Tournament:    On 6 June 2014, at Eagles Pride Golf Course on JBLM, beginning at 12:00 noon, is the Chapter’s annual golf tournament.   The details of the tournament can be found here if you’re interested in forming a team.   We need golfers to support soldier programs!     We’re also looking for hole sponsors.   The details can be found here.   If you have any questions about the tournament, simply contact Carroll Dickson at

AUSA’s Gig Harbor Subchapter 201st BFSB Family Appreciation Day:   On Friday, August 8th, at Sehmel Homestead Park, 10123 – 78th Ave. NW, in Gig Harbor, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, in Gig Harbor.  3,000 soldiers and family members are expected to attend.  If you’re interested in sponsoring the event, simply contact Carlene Joseph at or Fred Oldenburg at     Information about sponsorship levels can be found here.

CMLC, AUSA General Membership Meeting with SMA (r) Kenneth Preston:  On May 29th, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM, at the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club, 8102 Zircon Drive SW, Lakewood, WA, the Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter will be hosting a general membership meeting for the 13th Sergeant Major of the Army, (retired), Kenneth Preston. The cost is $20.00 for civilians. The chapter will pick up the meal price for soldiers and their wives, plus one drink.
