Dear Citizens of the 3rd Council District,
Once a year, each council member hosts a regularly-scheduled council meeting in their district. Last year, our meeting was held at the Graham fire station. This year, we’re heading deeper into the district. The Mount Rainier Lion’s Club (27726 State Route 706 E.) in Ashford has been reserved for our 6 p.m. council meeting this Tuesday, October 14.
I am hoping that many of you will be able to attend and experience your local government firsthand. We will address a minimal amount of standard business. The heart of the meeting will be to describe life in the shadow of Mt. Rainier.
Speakers and topics include:
- Don Johnstone, author and historian—commentary and slideshow on historical background of Ashford/Mt. Rainier area
- Krestin Bahr, Superintendent of Eatonville Schools—update on the financial challenges and welfare of the district
- Garry Olson, Ashford Fire Chief—operating needs and expectations of a fire station in rural Pierce County
- Rick Adams, business owner and long-time resident—sharing the economic history of the area and how regulatory and land use schemes have changed lives and livelihoods
I hope you will be able to carve out some time in your busy schedule to attend the council meeting next week.
