Pierce County Charter

By Marianne Lincoln

So many people are new to Pierce County, a link to the governing code might be useful.

Pierce County Became a Charter County in 1980 adopting this Charter. Since that time, every 10 years, a Charter Commission is elected to review an update that Charter. There are also Charter updates made by the Pierce County Council, changes that have been controversial at times. (Since their work is directly affected, conflicts of interest have been charged.)

Questions have been raised recently about the number of council seats due to the growth of the county. Expect to hear more about that in hte near future.

This is the link to the Charter for Pierce County, Washington.
