Are you a Spanaway or Parkland Business owner? Chances are your life isn’t easy, particularly if you are located on or near Pacific Avenue. Your regular, paying customers are very aware you deal with shoplifting, fraudulent payments, fake money, stolen shopping carts, break-ins, and abusive customers, among other issues.

What we have not had for some time is the South Pierce County Chapter of the Tacoma Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. It went away years ago and has not reappeared. Briefly, the 723 Business Group tried to make headway representing local businesses, but that fell apart just before COVD came along.

In the meantime, some have been inserting their ads into Facebook pages not related to business. Other have tried to hang out with the Kiwanis, Rotary or Lions Clubs or posting signs along street right of ways and telephone poles. Face it, looking up a local business was a good use for telephone books. But those are long gone also.

Just this week, as a social medial administrator tired of declining your posts on school and non-profit pages, I created a Spanaway & Parkland Business Group Facebook page. Anyone can join to post about their business. One post a week maximum, don’t flood it. The posts will go through approval before actually posting. For profit businesses, non-profit businesses, churches, community groups all can announce what is happening in your word.

Another great group, Safe Streets, is also featuring a Pacific Avenue Business Group. The next meeting is on October 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Parkland Community Center. Come out and share with other business owners how to address concerns as a community.

Together, the community and business owners can make some inroads and changes that will improve the quality of life for us all.
