Council Committee set to review County elected officials salaries

Like it or not, there is an ordinance of the Pierce County Council that prescribest hem to form a committe at regualr intervals to consider increasing the salaries of the elected officials of the County.

Byt he end of the year, this committee will propose the new salary schedule. The Post will try to keep u o with the proceeding so you can learn how to reach out to them in a public hearing.

County Council Salary Committee source documents reveal the locations which these people reside. Larry Bourland (citizen-Gig Harbor), Chantal Huson (citizen-Gig Harbor), Pamela Relchel (citizen-Puyallup), Lisa Hile (citizen-Lakewood), Timothy Madden (citizen-Roy), James Vehonsky (citizen-Tacoma), Steven Davies (WSBA attorney) ), Joanna Monroe (Tacoma Pierce County Chamber of Commerce), Patty Rose (Pierce County Labor Council), Rich Sokolowski (Pierce County Civil Service Commission).

RESOLUTION NO. R2012-4

A Resolution of the Pierce County Council Confirming the Appointment of Ten New Members (Larry Bourland, Lisa Hile, Chantal Huson, Timothy Madden, Pamela Reichel, James Vehonsky, Patty Rose, Steven Davies, Joanna Monroe, and Rich Sokolowski) to the Pierce County Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials.

Whereas, Ordinance No. 2011-59s eliminated the automatic salary Increase of the Pierce County Executive, the County Council, the Auditor, the Assessor-Treasurer, and the Sheriff Salaries; and Whereas, Ordinance No. 2007-79$ established a Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials; and

Whereas, the Salary Commission consists often members with six of the ten members selected by lot, by the Pierce County Auditor, from among registered Pierce County voters and four members appointed by the Pierce County Executive; and

Whereas, the Pierce County Auditor has held its selection process and Larry Bourland, Lisa Hile, Chantal Huson, Timothy Madden, Pamela Relchel, and James Vehonsky are eligible and wish to be appointed to serve; and

Whereas, the Executive sought recommendations from Pierce County labor, legal, business, and human resources organizations; and

Whereas, Patty Rose, representing labor; Steven Davies, representing legal; Joanna Monroe, representing business; and Rich Sokolowski, representing human resources, wish to be appointed to serve; and Whereas, the Pierce County Charter, Section 3.30, provides that the appointment of members of boards and commission shall be made by the Executive, subject to confirmation by a majority of the County Council; and

Whereas, the Council has completed Its confirmation review; Now Therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of Pierce County:

Section 1. The Council hereby confirms the appointment of the following

individuals to the Pierce County Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials

as stated below:

Larry Bourland

Chantal Huson

Pamela Relchel

Lisa Hile

Timothy Madden

James Vehonsky

Steven Davies

Joanna Monroe

Patty Rose

Rich Sokolowski 

First Term
Expires: January 1, 2016

Section 2. The Clerk of the Council; shall provide a copy of this Resolution to the individuals confirmed, the Pierce County Auditor, and the County Executive.
