History
The Parkland School was built In 1900. It was its own School District, serving grades 1 to 9 until 1954. Students in higher grades attend Lincoln High School, which just celebrated its 100th anniversary this past weekend. In 1901, the Parkland School served 50 students and a third classroom was added in 1902.
From 1955 to 1982, Parkland Elementary served grades K-6 as part of the Franklin Pierce School District. The school was closed in 1982 and used for various social service offices. In 1990, the building was sold to Pacific Lutheran University.

The Parkland School is entering a new chapter in its existence! On September 3, the beautiful old building will open as a learning institution one again, this time as Mount Rainier Lutheran High School. Some of our teachers attended elementary school at Parkland, and will be teaching in their old classrooms. We are so excited and feel so blessed to be part of the Parkland community. Please stop by our booth at the Garfield Street Fair and see what we’re all about.:)
Thank you. We are hoping to do a story on this soon. Who owns it now, PLU or the Lutheran School?
PLU still owns the building, MRLH is leasing it.
