FIRING OF M77 155mm Howitzers
One of the field artillery battalions on JBLM will conduct late-night training this week and next week with M777 155mm towed Howitzers. The purpose of the late-night training is for unit proficiency training and qualification on this weapon system.
- On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 9-11, artillery will fire throughout the day, beginning as early as 7 a.m., and will conclude at midnight each day.
- On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 16-17, artillery will fire throughout the day, beginning as early as 7 a.m., and will continue throughout the night on both nights.
This is required training, which allows military members to practice and improve skills necessary during combat. As often as possible, JBLM conducts larger scale artillery firing at the Yakima Training Center in an effort to minimize inconvenience for the surrounding communities. However, some training must take place on base at JBLM.
Queries or comments about noise may be directed to the JBLM Public Affairs Office’s External Communication Division hotline at (253) 967-0852, daily.
