Pierce County Fair opens with a dedication

GRAHAM, WA — The Pierce County Fair in Graham opened this year on August 11th with the dedication of a magnificent engraved marble bench in honor of long time Fair Manager Betty Backstrom. Betty passed away this past January and her presence is missed by many. Her memorial filled the arts showroom at the Puyallup Fairgrounds.

The staff from the fair kicked off the dedication, followed by a few words from County Councilman Jim McCune and Betty’s long time close friend, former Senator Marilyn Rasmussen. Following these Betty’s friends, Robert and Elizabeth Satiacum and their family gave a prayer and a dance to honor her spirit and those who love her that came to share in the event.

The first to sit on the bench were family members including Betty’s daughter. In addition, several of her great grandchildren posed on the bench, cute as buttons. Betty Backstrom’s presence is always missed…
